ich freue mich, dass es nun möglich ist, euch hier auf unserer neuen Website die kommende Topcat World Championship in Jurmala bei Riga zu präsentieren.

Der Austragungsort
Jurmala liegt an der Ostsee etwa 10 km nordwestlich von Riga in Lettland. Der traumhafte und sehr breite weiße Sandstrand zieht sich, soweit das Auge blicken kann. Wenn ihr auf die Karte schaut, dann findet ihr unseren Eventschauplatz dort, wo der Fluss Lilupe eine große Schleife zum Meer macht, und wenn ihr in Jurmala die Straße Kaiju iela googelt, dann führt dieser Weg zum Strand genau zu unseren Liegeplätzen.

The Event Location: Jurmala ist located at the Baltic Sea around 10 Km north-west of Riga/Latvia. The divine and very wide sandy beach goes up to the horizon. Having a look at the map you may find our event location where the river Lilupe forms a big loop to the sea. A street called Kaiju iela will lead you to the beach right to our berths (Google may help!)

Die Zeit vor Ort
Die offizielle WM-Woche geht vom 11. bis zum 17. August 2018. Die Tage davor werden bestimmt sein von Anreise und Aktivitäten der Tourenszene. Unser Wolfgang Gommel wird für euch wieder die schönsten Touren ausfindig machen sowohl auf dem Wasser als auch die Entdeckung der Sehenswürdigkeiten der historischen, lettischen Hauptstadt.
Der 18. August, der Tag nach unserer Siegerehrung, ist der bedeutendste Feiertag dort und das noch im 100. Jahr der Unabhängigkeit. Die Stadt sprudelt, an allen Ecken Konzerte, Märkte, Straßenmusik, Aktionen auf großen Bühnen und am Abend ein großes Feuerwerk auf dem Fluss. Das sollte man sich in jedem Fall gönnen.

A Great Time There: The official week of Championship will last from 11th till 17th August 2017. Before this a touring event shall be organized as well as the boats and sailors will arrive. Wolfgang Gommel will once again surely find the most outstanding touring places as well as the secrets of the historic downtown of Riga. The 18th August, the day after our ceremonial event, will be the most important holiday there celebrating the 100th anniversary of Latvian's independence. The town will be on fire: concerts, market stands, live music and big attractions everywhere at big stages followed by outstanding fireworks on the river. You should really lash out on this.

Anreise
Bei der Entscheidung für den WM-Ort Jurmala bei Riga war uns durchaus die Herausforderung der Anreise der Segler mit dem Bootsgespann bewusst. Darum haben wir schon im Vorfeld viele Segler befragt. Das Ergebnis ist vielfältig und kreativ.
1. Anreise mit dem eigenen Fahrzeug über Land:  Werner Alvermann eruiert zur Zeit alles, was man zur Fahrt über die Straßen Polens, Litauen und Lettland wissen sollte.
2. Anreise mit dem eigenen Fahrzeug über Land und Fähre von Travemünde nach Lipaja: auch hier stellt Werner alles zusammen, auch die Möglichkeit einer Gruppenüberfahrt. Ihr könnt euch gern bei ihm melden, auch wenn ihr eventuell in der Gruppe mitfahren wollt. Kontakt - werner.alvermann@t-online.de - oder 0172 669 67 47.
3. Flug nach Riga: Baltic Air macht's möglich, der Flughafen ist nur knapp 20min Autofahrt vom Austragungsort entfernt
4. Wer fliegt, muss sein Schiff anderweitig nach Jurmala bekommen: wir werden hier im Forum einen Mitfahrer- bzw. Mittransport ins Leben rufen.
5. nach den Befragungen wird es Sinn machen, einen LKW-Transport zu organisieren, der einige Schiffe von Italien und Süddeutschland auffängt.
6. Wir haben auch schon vom österreichischen Team vernommen, dass sie einen Sammeltransport organisieren.
Wer die Fähre nutzen will, ist gut beraten, sich sehr schnell zu entscheiden, die Plätze sind nicht grenzenlos.

To Get There: When we considered Riga as a place for our next World Championship we were fully aware of the challenges for the sailors to get there. This is why we already got in touch with a lot of you. The result is very diverse and creative:

  1. To go with the own car completely: Werner Alvermann is going to check out what you should know when travelling through Poland, Lituania and Latvia.
  2. To go with the own car by land and take a ferry from Travemünde to Lipaja: also to this point Werner will collect information, for a team passage too. Please feel free to get in touch with him, also if you intent to travel jointly within a group. His coordinats are werner.alvermann@t-online.de or +49 172 669 67 47.
  3. Flight to Riga: Baltic Air serves this connection - but look out for other cheap connections. The airport is only about 20 minutes away from the event location.
  4. If you want to take the plane, your ship must go to Jurmala separately. We will create a market for car passengers and additional transportation here in the new ITCA-forum.
  5. According to our survey it will make sense to organise a truck transportation which will carry some ships from Italy and the southern regions of Germany
  6. We also heard from our Austrian friends that they are about to organise a joint transportation

Friendly hint: if you want to take a ferry, please make up your mind quickly, there are already bottlenecks at selected routes.

Unterkünfte
In Jurmala gibt es über 150 Hotels. Wer seine Herberge sicher haben will, sollte auch hier schnell handeln. Wir sind an einem sehr beliebten Badeort und das im Sommer und zu den Feierlichkeiten ...
Wenn ihr etwas passendes gefunden habt, gebt die Erfahrung bitte auch im Forum weiter.
Mit Campingplätzen sieht es eher rar aus. Wir waren vor Ort und haben genau einen ausfindig gemacht, der von der Entfernung her passt: Er nennt sich Campings Jurmala. Von ihm aus radelt man etwa 12 Minuten direkt am Strand zum Bootsliegeplatz. Er ist einfach gehalten, aber im Platz großzügig. Das Arial hat einen parkähnlichen Charakter mit Wiese und schattenspendenden Bäumen. Zum Strand gelangt man durch einen kleinen Waldweg. Die Preise sind moderat.
Auch hier meldet euch bitte im Forum, wenn jemand schon alles durchstudiert bzw. gebucht hat.

Accomodation: There are more than 150 hotels in Jurmala. So no reason to worry but who wants to be on the save side should decide quickly. The region is a very famous bathing resort and our event falls together with summer high season and the above mentioned independence celebrations. When you will have found something apropriate please share your experiences within the ITCA-forum. The situation concerning camping is a little bit weaker. We had a personal look directly there at the site and found a camping area which is located in a suitable distance. It is called 'Campings Jurmala'. By bicycle you will reach our boat berths right on the beach in 12 minutes. It is a simple place but generous, a kind of park with lawn and shape providing trees. You will find your way to the beach through a little forest path. Costs are moderate. Please also share your experiences in the forum when you have additional information or already made your reservation.
