„Eat pasta, sail fasta“

Noch steht nicht fest, ob das das offizielle Motto der TOPCAT Worlds Cesenatico 2026 wird – oder doch nur vergängliches Produkt einer fröhlichen Planungsrunde der Familie Wallner bleibt. Aber es zeigt schon, wo es in der zweiten Septemberwoche in der Emilia-Romagna an der Adriaküste langgehen soll: back to the roots.

Und das nicht nur, weil viele TOPCAT-Segler Revier, Club und Rumpffertigung in Cesenatico seit Jahrzehnten kennen. Es soll ein klassisches TOPCAT-Event mit Regattasegeln auf hohem Niveau und trotzdem familiärem Beisammensein an Land sein. In gastfreundlichem Club direkt am Strand, bei italienischem Flair, kurzen Wegen, gutem Essen, netten Gesprächen und auch einer Portion Strandparty. Für den TOPCAT-Nachwuchs, Regatta-Einsteiger, die alten Hasen, die immer dabei sind und auch gerne ein paar Rückkehrer in den Schoss der TOPCAT-Familie, die all das vermissen. Und natürlich auch für alle mitreisenden Familien und Freunde die vor Ort eine Woche Urlaub machen wollen.

Es lädt ein: der Circolo Vela Cesenatico

Veranstalter ist der Circolo Vela Cesenatico. Deren Vertreter haben von Anfang an betont, dass TOPCAT quasi zur DNA des Clubs gehört, weil man sich so lange verbunden ist. Möglicherweise wird für die Worlds mit dem Nachbarclub Congrega Velisti Cesenatico kooperiert. Viele Mitglieder der beiden Clubs segeln Katamarane. Gemeinsam richten sie an Ostern immer die Vele di Pasqua aus. Zeitweise mit dreistelligen Teilnehmerzahlen und in diesem Jahr zum 50. Mal! Erfahrung mit großen Veranstaltungen ist also reichlich da. 2023 fanden dort beispielsweise auch die Hobie Multiworlds & Europeans statt – laut Club mit rund 400 Booten. Der Vorstand des Circolo Vela Cesenatico geht allein von 15 TOPCATs aus, die bei unserer Worlds aus den Club-Reihen an den Start gehen werden.

Der Circolo Vela Cesenatico war bislang recht spartanisch ausgestattet. Ohne festes Clubhaus mit großen festen Zelten und einfachen Sanitäranlagen. Das soll sich dieses Jahr ändern, es sind feste Gebäude geplant. Für unsere Veranstaltung soll auch eine feste Bar eingerichtet werden. Wir sind gespannt! Der möglicherweise involvierte Nachbarclub Congrega Velisti Cesenatico hat ein festes Gebäude mit Strandpanorama-Partyraum und traumhafter Dachterrasse.

Die Ausschreibung

Die Ausschreibung ist gerade (Stand Anfang Dezember 2025) im Entstehen. Sie wird sich an klassischen Club-Regatten der Klasse orientieren, nachdem die umfangreichen und teuren Vorgaben für internationale Regatten der World Sailing für uns ab 2026 wegfallen. Das geplante Meldegeld wird um die 300 Euro für Zweimann-Boote betragen. Etwa 100 Euro günstiger wird es wie immer für Einmann-Boote. Außerdem ist ein Jugendtarif für Segler bis 25 geplant. Da aber die Absprachen noch laufen und die Kosten für das Rahmprogramm noch nicht feststehen, ist das im Moment noch eine grobe Schätzung.

Die Wettfahrten der TOPCAT Worlds Cesenatico 2026 sind dabei von Montag den 7. bis Freitag den 11. September geplant. Am Wochenende davor finden wie üblich Vermessung und Practice Race (Sonntag) statt. Und auch wer früher anreist, ist schon herzlich willkommen.

Das Revier

Zum Revier: Adriaküste mit einem wirklich breiten Sandstrand bis zum Horizont. Anfang September mit hoffentlich beginnender herbstlicher Brise. Gesegelt wird in der Regel etwas nördlich des Clubs. Geslippt wird vom Strand ins langsam tiefer werdende Wasser. Der Slip-Bereich ist dabei durch einen langen Wellenbrecher etwa 300 Meter vor dem Strand geschützt. Bei stärkerem auflandigem Wind kann es trotzdem aufregend wellig werden. Angst muss man dabei aber nicht haben. Die Jugend bekommt es seit Jahren beim Ostertraining auch hin. Im Zweifel dort um Rat fragen :-).

Zwischen Lost Places und charmantem Küstenstädtchen

Der Club liegt an einer ganz interessanten Stelle im nördlichen Teil von Cesenatico. Im Norden und Westen liegen zahlreiche verlassene Häuser und geben dem ganzen einen etwas morbiden Lost-Places-Charme. Direkt im Süden grenzen aber Bagnos, Hotels und Restaurants an – der ganze italienische Adria-Charme! Gerade noch in Laufweite ist der Kanal von Cesenatico mit Bars, Eisdielen und weiteren Restaurants.

So wohnen wir in Cesenatico

Im direkten Umfeld des Clubs gibt es reichlich Hotels, Pensionen und Ferienwohnungen. Mit einigen wird es wohl Absprachen geben, um bessere Preise zu erhalten. Zehn bis 15 Camper sollen die Gelegenheit erhalten auf einem Nachbargrundstück des Clubs zu bleiben. Strom kann dafür gelegt werden. Außerdem können die Sanitäranlagen des Clubs genutzt werden. Hinzu kommen der Campingplatz „Cesenatico Camping Village“ in knapp zwei Kilometern Entfernung und der gut ausgestatte Stellplatz „Area Sosta Camper Cesenatico“ in rund 750 Metern Entfernung. Wir planen die Camper zu koordinieren, damit sich, wer Lust hat, zusammenstellen kann.

Die Region

Über mögliche Ausflüge in die Region lässt sich ein ganzer Reiseführer füllen. Der hiermit empfohlen sei! Erwähnt seien in der Nähe die Ferrari-Stadt Maranello, der Kleinststaat San Marino, die Küstenstädte Rimini und Ravenna … und und und.

Unterstützergruppe von TOPCAT

Unterstützt wird der Club von einer vierköpfigen TOPCAT-Segler-Truppe: Herbert Wallner (Oberunterstützer), Paul Säger (alias Schäfer – kleiner Insider aus Travemünde), Gregor Lotz und Dirk Vilsmeier. Wir wollen das Bindeglied zwischen Club und TOPCAT-Familie sein. Wir beraten den Circolo Vela Cesenatico und bringen ein, was für uns TOPCAT-Segler wichtig ist. Training zur Einstimmung an Ostern

Das Revier schon im Frühjahr kennenlernen?! 2026 findet in Cesenatico in der Woche vor Ostern auch wieder unser groß angelegtes Regattatraining für alle Altersklassen statt. Es ist das mittlerweile vierte Mal und erfreut sich wachsender Beliebtheit vom Anfänger bis zum weit Fortgeschrittenen.

In Cesenatico werden seit mittlerweile fast einem halben Jahrhundert auch die Rümpfe der TOPCATs hergestellt. Alle angereisten Rümpfe kehren gewissermaßen also an ihren Geburtsort zurück. Das sollte sich doch kein Rumpf entgehen lassen!

It has not yet been decided whether this will become the official motto of the TOPCAT Worlds Cesenatico 2026 — or whether it will remain nothing more than a fleeting product of a cheerful planning session at the Wallner family’s place. But it already shows the direction for the second week of September in Emilia-Romagna on the Adriatic coast: back to the roots.

And not only because many TOPCAT sailors have known the waters, the club, and the hull production in Cesenatico for decades. The plan is for it to be a classic TOPCAT event — high-level racing combined with the warm, family-style atmosphere ashore. Hosted by a friendly club right on the beach, with Italian flair, short distances, great food, good conversations, and even a touch of beach party. For the TOPCAT youth, newcomers to racing, the old hands who are always there, and also for a few returnees to the TOPCAT family who miss all of that. And of course for all accompanying families and friends who want to enjoy a week-long holiday on site.

The Host: Circolo Vela Cesenatico

The organiser is Circolo Vela Cesenatico. From the very beginning, their representatives have emphasised that TOPCAT is practically part of the club’s DNA, because of the long-standing connection between them. It is also possible that the Worlds will be organised in cooperation with the neighbouring club Congrega Velisti Cesenatico.

Many members of both clubs sail catamarans. Together they host the Vele di Pasqua regatta every Easter — sometimes with participant numbers in the triple digits, and this year for the 50th time! So there is plenty of experience with major events. For example, in 2023 the Hobie Multiworlds & Europeans took place there as well — according to the club, with around 400 boats.

The board of Circolo Vela Cesenatico alone expects that 15 TOPCATs from within the club will be on the starting line at our Worlds.

Up to now, Circolo Vela Cesenatico has been equipped rather modestly — without a permanent clubhouse, with large permanent tents and simple sanitary facilities. That is expected to change this year, as permanent buildings are planned. For our event, a permanent bar is also to be set up. We’re curious! The potentially involved neighbouring club, Congrega Velisti Cesenatico, already has a permanent building with a party room offering panoramic beach views and a stunning rooftop terrace.

The Notice of Race

The Notice of Race is currently being prepared (as of early December 2025). It will be based on the format of traditional club regattas of the class, since the extensive and expensive World Sailing requirements for international regattas will no longer apply to us from 2026 onwards.

The planned entry fee will be around 300 euros for two-person boats. As always, it will be about 100 euros cheaper for single-handed boats. In addition, a youth rate is planned for sailors up to the age of 25. However, since discussions are still ongoing and the costs for the supporting programme are not yet fixed, this is currently only a rough estimate.

The races for the TOPCAT Worlds Cesenatico 2026 are planned from Monday, 7 September to Friday, 11 September. The weekend before will, as usual, include measurement and the practice race (Sunday). And anyone arriving earlier is, of course, very welcome as well.

The Sailing Area

About the venue: the Adriatic coast, with a truly wide sandy beach stretching all the way to the horizon. Early September should hopefully bring the first autumn breeze.

Racing usually takes place slightly north of the club. Boats are launched from the beach into water that gradually becomes deeper. The launching area is protected by a long breakwater located about 300 metres offshore. With stronger onshore winds it can still get excitingly choppy. But there’s no need to worry — the youth sailors have been handling it for years during the Easter training camps as well. When in doubt, just ask them for advice :-).

Between Lost Places and a Charming Coastal Town

The club is located in a very interesting spot in the northern part of Cesenatico. To the north and west there are numerous abandoned houses, giving the area a slightly morbid “lost places” vibe.

But directly to the south you’ll find beach facilities, hotels and restaurants — all the charm of the Italian Adriatic coast! Just within walking distance is the canal of Cesenatico, lined with bars, ice-cream parlours and more restaurants.

Accommodation in Cesenatico

In the immediate surroundings of the club there are plenty of hotels, guesthouses and holiday apartments. Agreements will probably be made with some of them to obtain better prices.

Ten to fifteen campers will be given the opportunity to stay on a neighbouring plot next to the club. Electricity can be provided, and the club’s sanitary facilities may also be used. In addition, there is the “Cesenatico Camping Village” campsite just under two kilometres away and the well-equipped camper stop “Area Sosta Camper Cesenatico” about 750 metres away.

We plan to coordinate the camper groups so that anyone who wants can team up and stay together.

The Region

Possible excursions into the region could fill an entire travel guide — which is hereby highly recommended! Nearby highlights include the Ferrari town of Maranello, the microstate of San Marino, and the coastal towns of Rimini and Ravenna … and much, much more.

The club is supported by a group of four TOPCAT sailors: Herbert Wallner (chief supporter), Paul Säger (alias “Schäfer” — a small insider from Travemünde), Gregor Lotz and Dirk Vilsmeier.

We want to be the link between the club and the TOPCAT family. We advise Circolo Vela Cesenatico and contribute whatever is important to us as TOPCAT sailors. We are also — especially in the lead-up — your contact persons as sailors.

Easter Training to Get in the Mood

Get to know the venue already in spring?! In 2026, Cesenatico will once again host our large-scale regatta training camp for all age groups in the week before Easter. It will be the fourth time already and is becoming increasingly popular — from beginners to advanced sailors.

By the Way

For almost half a century now, TOPCAT hulls have been manufactured in Cesenatico. So in a way, all visiting hulls will be returning to their birthplace. No hull should miss that!
